A California Assembly committee has advanced a bill to make Muslim holidays Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha official state holidays. At the same moment, a University of Michigan professor is facing backlash for praising Palestinian activists — and specifically pro-Hamas protesters — in a commencement address. Rabbi Michael Barclay, a widely read columnist and host of “The Rabbi’s Table,” points out that California has never granted state holiday status to any other religion. “But now they are suddenly cow-towing and catering to what is effectively Shariah law,” he says. “It’s a horrible statement about California and about politicians who are pandering for money or votes from the Islamic community.”
