The state of California is quietly passing a law that will allow a non family member adult to take guardianship over any minor with a simple form. In that form there is a box to check if “parents cannot be located”. The author states this is meant for families where the parent has been deported, however no where in the bill does this apply only to one demographic. This will apply to all children and no one is talking about it.
This bill is currently in Senate Appropriations. Should it pass out of this committee it will most likely pass the floor and go to the governor for his signature.
At that point, Gavin Newsom can #VetoAB495 or he can show the nation that California is the hub for state sanctioned trafficking.
