The devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area highlight the need for meaningful solutions to long-standing problems. The state’s policymakers have proposed meaningless solutions, such as banning gasoline-powered cars and filing lawsuits against oil companies, instead of addressing the root causes of the crisis.
The lack of water, the presence of alien predator fish, and the need for infrastructure upgrades are some of the issues that need to be addressed. The current water rationing and housing regulations are also not helping anyone, and the proposed new homes in the hills should prioritize resilience, ember-resistant vents, and lawn watering over capacity. The final piece in this puzzle is reimagining firefighting, with a focus on remotely detecting small fires and utilizing lawn watering over capacity to reduce the chances of fires.
