On December 19, 2023, the Colorado Supreme Court issued an unprecedented ruling, declaring Donald Trump ineligible to become president again after engaging in insurrection. The decision bars Trump from the state’s primary ballot. In a Trump campaign statement on the Colorado Supreme Court ruling, Steven Cheung, Trump Campaign Spokesman, stated:

Unsurprisingly, the all-Democrat appointed Colorado Supreme Court has ruled against President Trump, supporting a Soros-funded, left-wing group’s scheme to interfere in an election on behalf of Crooked Joe Biden by removing President Trump’s name from the ballot and eliminating the rights of Colorado voters to vote for the candidate of their choice. Democrat Party leaders are in a state of paranoia over the growing, dominant lead President Trump has amassed in the polls. They have lost faith in the failed Biden presidency and are now doing everything they can to stop the American voters from throwing them out of office next November. The Colorado Supreme Court issued a completely flawed decision tonight and we will swiftly file an appeal to the United States Supreme Court and a concurrent request for a stay of this deeply undemocratic decision. We have full confidence that the U.S. Supreme Court will quickly rule in our favor and finally put an end to these un-American lawsuits.

The following are statements by political commentators, conservative activists, elected officials, and legal experts condemning the Colorado Supreme Court decision.

The veil has been lifted. 2024 isn’t just an election between two candidates — it’s about reclaiming our Republic from radical Leftist hellbent on absolute power and control. The Democrats are perfectly willing to jail opponents, kick them off the ballot, censor speech, add states to the union and open up our border for raw political power. The Colorado courts weaponizing the law against Donald Trump should alarm everyone. Trump haters are abusing the Constitution and the rule of law to attempt to keep him out of office (again). Independent thinkers – whether you like President Trump or not – should understand the grave constitutional crisis this throws our country into. No state court, legislature or executive should weaponize the judicial branch (without any sort of conviction for anything) to keep a federal candidate off the ballot. Due process and rule of law are being tossed out the window by people hell bent on “getting” President Trump. The American people see right through the left’s pattern of election meddling/interference. First, there were unprecedented indictments in New York and Georgia, and now Colorado is pulling Trump off the 2024 ballot – President Trump is a clear victim of political persecution. The leftist controlled Colorado Supreme Court’s move contradicts the democratic values the left claims to fight for. SCOTUS must intervene! This is blatant election interference, violating the First Amendment and distorting the 14th Amendment’s intent. The Colorado Supreme Court’s attempt to remove the leading Republican candidate for President from the state’s ballot is nothing more than a political, partisan attack on our democratic republic. This action sets a dangerous precedent and should be of grave concern to every American, regardless of political party. The Colorado Supreme Court has handed down the most anti-democratic opinion in decades. What is particularly galling is that these four justices stripped away the right of millions of voters to choose their preferred candidate in the name of democracy. On December 20, 2023, Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis sent a letter to Secretary of State Shirley Weber “urging her to explore legal options to remove former President Donald Trump from California’s 2024 presidential primary ballot following the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling.” This is another attack on former President Trump and America’s political institutions and process. All Californians of goodwill, regardless of political affiliation and who they support for president, must ardently oppose this anti-democratic, illegal, and unconstitutional effort.
