(KCRA) – Due to a reportedly “catastrophic staffing shortage” within the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO), officials confirmed on Friday the agency will be suspending daytime patrol services.

The suspension begins on Nov. 20, 2022, according to the TCSO. The agency says they’ve been experiencing difficulties with recruitment and retention of employees linked to pay disparities. In a release on Monday, the TCSO wrote, “A drastic rise in attrition, coupled with the inability to present enticing recruitment efforts have resulted in an unprecedented staffing shortage.”

In the same release, the TCSO explains they have staffing shortages in the custody division, forcing their deputies to be reassigned to fill vacancies in the courts and jail.
