Summary: Requires Employers to Enforce a Tyranical and Unnecessary Vaccine Mandate
AB 1993 would require employees and independent contractors to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment unless they have an exemption based on a medical condition, disability or religious beliefs. Meanwhile, it provides no exemption for those who have already recovered from COVID, despite the CDC’s recognition that natural immunity is as up to six times more effective than vaccinations.
This bill, which would likely take effect next year and levy penalties on employers that don’t comply comes after the U.S. Supreme Court nullified the Biden administration’s employer vaccine mandate and as infection and hospitalization rates driven by the Omicron variant continue to plummet.
The mandate would apply to workplaces of all sizes, as well as contractors, and allow for only medical or religious exemptions. It would require new hires to have at least one dose by their start date, and a second dose within 45 days.
Amid the news of attacks on small business employees who were required to enforce other such mask and vaccination mandates, most mall businesses don’t want put their employees in danger by forcing them to be traffic cops in debates about public safety.
