California Democrats introduced Senate Bill 222, aiming to hold oil companies accountable for damages caused by wildfires. The bill proposes that oil companies serve as the backstop for the state’s underfunded insurance plan, established as coverage of last resort for homeowners.
However, the assertion that oil companies are responsible for the damage caused by the fires is absurd, as climate change is a global phenomenon and the state’s leaders have been negligent in managing the state’s natural resources, such as forests.
