Chevron executive Andy Walsh has warned that the California Senate’s proposal to set new rules for backup fuel supply in the event of outages could permanently increase gas prices and drive the industry out of the state. The proposal, which is close to passing, has been met with criticism from both sides of the aisle, with concerns about its impact on gas prices and refinery workers’ health and safety. Chevron, which has served California for 140 years, has already announced plans to move its headquarters to Houston. The State Senate is scheduled to vote on the proposal on Friday.
