Bill: California AB 1223

Author: Assembly Member Marc Levine (D-10)

Position: Strongly Opposed

Summary: Imposes an excise tax on guns and ammunition

Marc Levine’s bill, AB 1223, will impose excise taxes on Californians for firearm and ammunition purchases, similar to the federal Pittman-Robertson Act, which already taxes ammunition sales at over 10%.

Levine wants you to believe that he’s doing this for the public good, but of course the real reason for making it unaffordable for purchasing ammunition is that he wants to prevent you from bearing arms by pricing everyone but the state’s wealthiest residents out of their Second Amendment rights.

Use the take action form below NOW to send a message to Assembly Member Levine and his pals in the California Legislature letting them know that you won’t let them tax away your rights.

OPPOSE AB 1078 – Prevents Local Control of Books/Curriculum in Public Schools

Honorable Assemblymember:

I am writing to ask that you OPPOSE AB 1078, a bill that Prevents Local Control of Books/Curriculum in Public Schools. AB 1078 would remove powers that local school boards have over the curriculum taught in their school district by requiring the school district to receive approval from the state board of education before “removing any instructional materials or ceasing to teach any curriculum.” School districts would also have to get the same approval before removing “any books, publications, or papers from schools and school libraries.” Please VOTE \"NO\" on AB 1078. Thank you!
